"AKKUYU"
The nuclear power plant (NPP) under construction on the Mediterranean coast of Turkey in Ilce Gulnar in Mersin.

Four power units with VVER-1300/509 type reactors with a unit capacity of 1,200 MW are under construction; the total design capacity is 4,800 MW. The physical launch of the first unit is scheduled for 2026.

Reactor type: VVER‑1200 (generation III+).

The electric capacity of each power unit is 1,200 MW (4 units in total, 4,800 MW in total).
Heating capacity: The project is not focused on heating (the main task is to generate electricity; thermal energy is not supplied to the heating network).

Its role in Turkey's energy system: After commissioning, the plant will be able to generate about 35 billion kWh per year and cover up to 10% of the country's electricity needs.

Some news (key milestones):

  • In 2023, nuclear fuel was delivered to the first unit — this is an important milestone, in fact, the start of the nuclear part of the project.
  • Commissioning works are underway at the first power unit.

The Siberian Ring Photon Source (SKIF) is designed for a wide range of applied research. It is planned to use it to study the chemical composition and structure of a substance, conduct tomography, investigate fast processes, process materials, and much more.

SKIF is a major scientific consumer of electricity, not a participant in generation. Its task is to provide research infrastructure for materials science, chemistry, biology, medicine, etc.

Installation type: Synchrotron source of the 4th generation (ring accelerator of charged particles for generation of synchrotron radiation).

Some news (key milestones):
  • In 2023-2024, active construction and installation work, installation of equipment, and creation of clean zones were underway.
  • The project is supervised by the Ministry of Education and Science and is implemented with the participation of organizations associated with scientific centers and Rosatom (in terms of technology, engineering, radiation safety, etc.).
  • SKIF is positioned as one of the largest scientific installations in Russia and potentially one of the brightest synchrotron sites in the world in terms of beam parameters.
Mining Industrial and Technical Complex (PTK) in the Saratov region.

The task of the complex is to process, dispose of and neutralize waste of hazard classes I and II.

MTK Gorny is a key element of the final isolation system for low- and medium-level radioactive waste. This is part of Rosatom's long-term strategy to eliminate accumulated legacy and manage waste from current operations.

Safety: the project provides for a multi-level barrier system (engineering and natural), constant monitoring and the possibility of waste extraction if necessary.

Connection with other projects: such PTCs are part of the unified RW management system in the country; they complement the existing temporary storage and processing sites.

"LAES‑2"
Leningrad NPP-2 (LNPP-2) is an operating nuclear power plant in the city of Sosnovy Bor, Leningrad region. The station site is located 35 km west of the border of St. Petersburg and 70 km from the historical center.

Some characteristics of LNPP-2:
  • Reactor type: VVER-1200 (water-powered power reactors).
  • The electric capacity of each power unit is 1198.8 MW (1185 MW is commercial capacity).
  • The heating capacity for heat supply equipment is up to 250 Gcal/h.
  • The estimated service life of the LNPP-2 is 50 years, the main equipment is 60 years.

Some news about LNPP-2 for July 2026:

  • Construction of splash pools, two artificial reservoirs each 124 meters long, 74 meters wide and 4.5 meters deep, has begun at the site of Leningrad NPP-2 power unit No. 3.
  • A melt localization device (melt trap) for the fourth power unit of Leningrad NPP-2 with a VVER-1200 reactor was delivered to Sosnovy Bor Pier.
  • According to the schedule, the reactor vessel is to be installed in 2029.
PTC Shchuchye is a production and technical complex.

PTC Shchuchye is located in the Shchuchansky municipal District of Kurgan region. Its task is the treatment, disposal and neutralization of waste of hazard classes I and II.

Closed-loop economics. The complex provides for:
  • Thermal neutralization
  • Physico‑chemical methods
  • Extraction of secondary raw materials: mercury, copper, aluminum, glass, sulfate and ammonium chloride, etc. That is, commercial products suitable for reuse are obtained from hazardous waste.

Multi-level security and monitoring system specialty in the scale and detail of control:
  • Multi-stage gas purification systems (so that emissions remain within normal limits even during heat treatment).
  • Sanitary protection zone 2 km.
  • Real-time environmental monitoring: monitoring of air, soil, surface and groundwater.
  • Systems for monitoring equipment parameters and emergency scenarios.

At the end of 2024, the Shchuchye PTK was put into pilot operation (OPE) ‑ that is, the technologies are already being tested on real waste streams, but the project has not yet been finalized.
